Keynote Speaker - Rod Camm

Rod Camm is the Chief Executive Officer, Skills Queensland.

 

Skills Queensland is an industry-led statutory authority, established to strengthen  Queensland’s  economic  base  by  providing  a  skilled workforce  that meets  the  current  and  future  needs of  industry  and the community.   Skills  Queensland  is  responsible  for  aligning  Queensland’s  skills system  with  the  needs  of  industry,  to  alleviate  skill  shortages  and better position Queensland and Queenslanders to address future skill needs. The  development  of  an  annual  Skills  and  Workforce  Development Investment Plan is a statutory function of Skills Queensland.

 

Rod was previously  the Associate Director-General,  Skills, Tertiary & Non-State Education Division within  the Department of Education & Training.  In  this  role, he was responsible for the vocational education & training sector, purchasing strategies to ensure industry ownership  of  the  skills  agenda  and  flexibility  and  responsiveness  from  training  providers.  The Tertiary and Non-State Education Division played an important role in ensuring value for money and quality from Queensland's significant investment in Education & Training.

 

Rod  is a director on a  range of boards, and  is currently on  the board of Technical and Vocational Education  and  Training  (TVET)  Limited,  National  Centre  for  Vocational  Education  and  Research (NCVER) and Aviation Australia.

 

Rod was previously the Chief Executive Officer, Construction Skills Queensland which  is the centre of  excellence  for  the  building  and  construction  industry  in  Queensland.  In  this  role,  he  was responsible  for  leading  skills  solutions  in  partnership  with  government  and  industry,  and  for developing and driving strategies to enhance workforce development.

 

Rod has also performed a range of other executive roles in Government.

 

In  2008,  Rod was  invited  by  the  Prime Minister  to  participate  in  the  2020  Summit.  The  summit brought together 1000 people to consider key reforms required to enhance Australia’s prosperity. Rod participated in the area focusing on ‘The Productivity Agenda (education, skills, training, science and innovation)’.

 

Rod was also awarded the Premier’s Scholarship for the Executive Masters of Public Administration from the Australian & New Zealand School of Government.

Speaker - Rebecca Hall

Rebecca Hall has over 15 years experience in the education sector.  During this time she has worked across all three levels of government with roles spanning industry development, economic development, international relations and marketing.  Some of her key positions include Coordinator Economic Development (Gold Coast City Council) Director VET Export Office (Department of Employment and Training QLD) and Director International Engagement, TAFE Directors Australia.

In 2010 she was awarded the PVC Research Scholarship to complete her PhD on the topic of the role of universities as sub state diplomacy actors. Rebecca is one of 3 founding directors of the International Education Resources Group (IER Group) , a niche consultancy team that works with providers and governments in pursuit of international engagement strategies and programs.

Rebecca is a passionate advocate for international education and industry engagement. She has a unique understanding of the critical factors impacting universities, vocational education and training organisations and schools in a globalised world.  She was an elected board member of the International Education Association of Australia (2008-2010) and currently holds positions on the Board of the Queensland Overseas Foundation (2008~) and is a member of the Australian Institute of International Affairs Queensland State Council (2011~).
